The Atlanta Falcons had a very interesting 2024 NFL Draft. And they quickly became the biggest story after making a shocking decision with the No. 8 overall pick.
Despite having signed veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins to a four-year deal, the Falcons decided to select Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. instead of bringing in someone to aid the team immediately.
Because of this, Falcons first-year head coach Raheem Morris talked about his decision and why they did what they did.
"I hate for it to be the story of the draft, but I know it will be," Morris told reporters. "That’s just how our world is based and is driven. But I can’t say it’s annoying, no, because it’s what people want to see. It’s piqued more interest."
And with that, he compared himself and GM Terry Fontenot to one of the most famous couples in the world right now.
"What’s [Travis] Kelce’s girlfriend’s name? I feel like her right now just based off, I’m Taylor Swift right now and Terry is Kelce, I guess. We’re making this thing popular," Morris said.
All Fontenot could do was laugh along.
“What are we doing? He’s tired guys,” Fontenot added.

This pick came as a shock to everyone, including Cousins. His agent, Mike McCartney, told NFL Network that they were surprised by this pick.
"We had no idea this was coming," McCarthy told NFL Network in a statement. "The truth is the whole league had no idea this was coming. We got no heads up. Kirk got a call from the Falcons when they were on the clock. That was the first we heard. It never came up in any conversation."
So hopefully this pick proves to work out in the end for Morris, Fontenot, and the Falcons. Because if not, this Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift comparison will no longer apply.
